Tuscany - Chianti

You stay in a mixture of 3 & 4-star hotels. All are small and family-owned, chosen for their locations and friendly service. All rooms have a private bathroom. We include dinner on two nights; on other nights there are many local restaurants to choose from.

We have personally stayed in or visited all of our accommodations. They have all been selected for their great locations, friendly atmosphere and traditional hospitality, as well as the warm welcome they offer to walkers. Below is a summary of our usual accommodations*.

On this trek, the accommodations are mostly small and family-run 3* hotels with 1 night in an agriturismo, all rooms have a private bathroom.

Night 1: Florence

This is a real Florentine-style villa near the Boboli Gardens and Ponte Vecchio on the opposite side of the river to central Florence. The hotel is surrounded by a magnificent garden in which there is a swimming pool with lounge chairs and beds. The historical centre of Florence is only a 20 minutes’ walk away where one can visit all of the most famous monuments like the Duomo, Palazzo Pitti, and the Uffizi.

Night 2: Impruneta

This family hotel is now being run by its 4th generation since it opened in 1906. It is renowned for its warm, welcoming hospitality, which makes you feel at home in a typical antiquated Tuscan environment with all of the modern-day comforts. The hotel is situated in the main square at Impruneta near the basilica of Santa Maria. The popular restaurant, serving traditional Tuscan food and its own wines, is on the top floor and you can eat outside in the summer, with the “bella vista” ahead of you.

Night 3: Chiocchio

This informal and pleasant 3-star property opened in 1991 by the Pesucci family.

The minimalist style rooms are accented with characteristic rustic cotto floors and tiled bathrooms. They all feature air-conditioning and satellite TV.

The on-site restaurant is renowned for its traditional Tuscan cuisine, the staff will be delighted to share the origin of the ingredients and talk about the history of the wine. Do not miss the chance to taste some of the regional wines of Chianti Classico here at Locanda Il Gallo.

A typical Italian buffet breakfast is served here in the morning.

Nights 4 & 5: Greve in Chianti

This hotel is situated in the Piazza Matteotti, at the heart of Greve. As far back as 1300 there has been an inn on this site. You can choose to take your dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, which serves local Tuscan dishes and also runs a cookery school.

Night 6: Radda in Chianti

Located in Piazza Ferrucci, at the heart of the historical centre of Radda in Chianti and is one of the most ancient and beautiful buildings in the town – with frescoes in the hall and breakfast room. The hotel has a peaceful little internal garden, where it is possible to have breakfast, lunch or an aperitif. The wine bar of the hotel is in the main square of the village. There is an extensive buffet breakfast.

Night 7: Siena

This hotel was restored in 2010 with comfortable and elegant rooms. You are able to walk to centre of Siena in 20 minutes and to the bus station in 10 minutes. The breakfast is a buffet and in the summer is served in the garden.

We will always endeavour to use the accommodations detailed above. Occasionally, due to limited availability or refurbishments, we may have to accommodate you into alternative accommodations which are not listed in the above description. If those listed are unavailable, the alternative accommodation will be of the same or better standard than those described.
